Terry Lynn is back with a five track EP! A Jamaican beer producer hired her and Johan Hugo of Radioclit.  “It was written” is the outcome. They tell us to„Drink and Dance Carefully“! The hint comes a little late for me but i’ll take it into account for this release at least.

This is no Kingstonlogic right here, but some good new music between raggae and Electro. Not too far from what Terry did with her executive phred on her debut, Kingstonlogic 2.0.

Terry Lynn will be at splash festival in Germany in july. Being THE traditional Hiphop festival over here, they gave up the star filled rap line-ups this year an booked elecronica artists instead. The music I dedicated the last 12 month to struck a nerve, seemingly. Mike Skinner is spending more times on Twitter than on the streets today. Okay, he got an iPhone so may be he combines the two. The outcome of months of heavy twittering is Mike Skinner giving out his newest work for free, right there on Twitter. Nope, that might not be the breaktrough concept for your up&comming emotional skinhead electro ska band, but yes, it once again shows that Mr. /skinnermike is a man of his time. Choosing swine flu as the topic for his “single” might be a sign of that, too.

Mike even stepped his Twitter game up by putting together new musical projects over there. Chantelle Fiddy says on her blog that she does some mysterious projects with Mike Skinner via Twitter. One outcome will be a song with Giggs (read Chantelle Fiddy’s World of Whatever).

So lets get to the tracks on The Twitter. Dont know if they will be on the upcoming last The Streets album Computers and Blues, sice I dont follow as much as he tweets. Mike Skinner told me last year when I interviewed him for Raveline magazine, that hes planning to go in that mash up direction a bit more that keeps clubs and blogs crazy at the moment. Dubstep, Electro, stuff like that.. We were at one that current mash ups by famous(!) artists is most of the time too commercial and without substace, but hey, Mike Skinner might be the right guy to change that.

Some of his new tracks show how he’s really takin that direction, still overall its the Skinner you love to hate. Some melancholic tunes („A Blip On A Screen“ or „Lovelight of my Life“), some faster tracks where he captures the irony of it all („David Hassles“). „I Love My iPhone“ has a dubstep side to it, „Skills On Toast“ features a bumping bass and would have its place on a grime album.

The mixture of fast and slow, melancholic tracks is nice and one thing that might really be like on The Streets’ first album, as promised. Banjos and guitars are nice elements too („Outside, Inside“ and „See if they Salute“), Mike Skinner is playing around in the studio and lets you be a part of it. The tracks are anything but pointless trials though.

Mike Skinner just posted a new mix on his blog. I heard the last one and liked it, so guess this one is dope too.

No idea if he mixes them himself but since he spends his whole day in his crib, I guess thats a given. How do I know? The guy twitters so much, he would be rnning into street lamps all day if he did that on his iPhone.

Or you might really get into what the artist wanted to tell us. You’ll have to go to stereogum for the latter though, we just get drunk and talk shit over here.

okay let me give you a quik report and some the streets news. mike skinner is in germany at the moment, touring. i planned to meet him and do a videointerview in duisburg, till my grannie decided to throw a birthday bash that day…luckily i could convince raveline magazine of the benefits of a mike skinner interview and traveled to his frankfurt show. not really economical, that trip, i’ll earn 20 E less than the train’s cost me.

guess you see the irony of it all – you might say “has it come too this? dont mug yourself pal, turn the page, its too late to act like a fan”, but we all got out runnins, lets stay positive: geezers need excitement, not the same old things, weak wont become heroes by drinking too much brandy, throw some sharp darts on that dailyroutine, lets push things forward, who dares wins! now who got the funk?^^

anyways, after 3 hours on the train i waited for the interview watchin football at a betting office. at 0:1 it was about time. the tour manager was a mean mugging skinhead, farting while he talked business. mike was kool, we talked about grime, dubstep, american rap and the techno rap revolution i talk about all day since schakkerhart started. we was pretty much on the same page, if this electro experimenting bullshit is supposed to lead somewhere, you guys better give it some substance or at least creativity.
mikes next album (the last the streets album) is supposed to sound more electronic than everything he did before, so he may be part of 2009s rap on techno movement. he gave props to Rinse and Peter Fox and declared dubstep his favourite for 2008.

after the chat i went back to see dortmund end the game 1:1 and wrote my article at a döner spot while waitin for the concert. -which featured a joke-cracking mike skinner plus live orchestra, his usual “sit down and get up again” games and an audience that was like some (SOME!) of his joints: smooth, intelligent, but too pop-y.

Imma give you more info about Mike Skinner, a shout out and everything else in a second, but first: his brandnew video. he’s planning to drop one for every song on the current album, everything is borrowed.

album is bout to come out and the streets gets his third video out. i have to start workin (10:44 pm is a good time for a powerful finish), so perhaps i wasnt in the mood: but neither the vid nor the track made me really pay attention. suburbia is a nice place for videos but only if its done right and relationships are strongly overrated as a song topic. or was this one really about the political history between great britain and the united states and i just didnt get the deeper meaning?

When The Streets first came out i really got into it. though i was listenin to nearly nuthin but straight us-rap stuff and couldt imagine ever to think that english-english could sound good. thing is, dude sounded hella good, even though hes on a trip of his own and being english as luke warm beer with strange aromatics and free newspapers. the streets was not only step one on my way to recognizin that england is a dope place its also music, that might be a remote relative to the stuff i do today.

the only time i questioned likin Skinners music was when i heard stuents at university talkin bout how this genius was doin all his music alone and at home and with nuthin but a laptop. ended up decidin that it wasnt mikes fault to be liked by the intellectual elite. dude is proll (just learned they call a proll chav in england. aha).

other thing is, i’m thinkin about if there is an audience for my aggressive, lyrics-loaded, personal hardcore tracks or if the chav (yea, i just learned that) club tracks with lesser lyrics are the only stuff to reach people with. mike skinner might be an example (like grime or even lützenkirchens “3 tage wach”) that techrap doesnt have to be reduced to two lines of lyrics to be workin. whatever, we gon do what we feel like doin and see where it takes us, right?
