The Lil Jon / Diplo collab rumoured since a year ago: the little dubstep club attacker called U Don’t Like Me.



The two producers talked about collaborating on Twitter last march, than put out videos like the one below and performed their collaboation live. Than some days ago Lil Jons album Crunk Rock hit stores, after years of label troubles, without the track. But here it is now:

Meanwhile Crunk Rock flopped pretty much. Planned as a crunk meets rock type of thing, Jon know descrbed it as a mixture of everything for eryone. Sounds boring but the tracklist reads like urban bass, which sounds more interesting. Didnt listen to it yet but Ill have to get it, wonder how good the DJ Chuckie collab is.

Major Lazer released a free mixtape yesterday and today the download is finally working.
Diplo and Switch partnered with Electropop duo La Roux for the Lazerproof mixtape, that also features work by Amanda Blank, Gucci Mane, Candi Redd, Rusko, Drake, Opal and Gyptian. Tape consists of remixes and should be fun…

Gucci Mane was one of 2009th hottest in US rap. Diplo musta felt that way too, so he put together a remix Mixtape with constributions by himself, Flying Lotus, Douster, DZ, Mumdance, Benzi, Brodinski, Bird Peterson, Emnyd and others.

I didnt really pay attention to Guccis stuff in 2009. To me,  Dirty South got a lil uninteresting cause it slowed down in making progress, other stuff was more interesting it I defffnitly didnt feel like snapping fingers and brushing dust of my shoulder in 09. Buttt: I defffnitly payed attention to Gucci some years ago. After gettin into Jeezy around the time of his major debut of course I checked out his arch enemy of that time too. Gucci had momentum with So Icy, just like collaborating Jeezy. Problem was, after the track they got into beef and Gucci shot a guy trying to rob him, allegedly send by Jeezy. So Jeezy rocked the charts and Gucci had to fight charges. He did, but chart topping retalition had to wait till 09. Now they sqashed beef btw. Problem at the end of 09 for Gucci: hes in jail again. Violated probation. So thats were the title of Diplos mixtape comes from. 

Mixtape is nice, nothing more, nothing lesser. Like the Emnyd track and dude even added the instrumental on his blog. Lots of tight producers on the tape, so check their work.

Major Lazer’s Hold The Line has good chances of becoming 2009′s most remixed track huh? An all star line-up of remixers did some good work so we put them in a mix. The idea sounded so dumb it just had to be good. One song stretched to 25 minutes and its not getting repetitive. Is it? Props to Cheezy P for the mix!

I don’t know who made it hip to think so, but: Major Lazer‘s Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do  matter of factly got declared album of the year by everybody thinking he’s supposed to make such a selection. You can stream the whole album here legally:

Why do people love it? Guess half of it is the “praising this makes me look like an expert” thing. Second thing is that the album has helluva concept by giving dancehall a facelift. Plus: the album works. Switch and Diplo use baby cries as an instrument, surf guitars (whatever this is I just copied that from somebody), use effects on the toasting and stuff. They worked with dope artists, blabla. Everything on point.

The concept aint new though. Its what you do in this online mash up scene. Its what Buraka Som Sistema did with Kuduro, taking a genre and tuning it with all the sounds and genres that are hot right now. Like Radioclit did with Funana in the mix I just posted (Radioclit Funanan Mix).

I just read an interview for a german mag where Diplo stated wursting dancehall wouldnt be cool at the moment what makes his work revolutonary. Hm. I come across stuff like that daily man. Might be Diplo started the trend (??) but Ghislain Poirier is doing it, Modeselektor, Terry Lynn and Phred do it. Dubstep and Grime have this influence like every second new british genre. So it aint that revolutionary and its definitely cool at the moment.

That aside, the album aint disappointing. Dont know if it’ll make my personal album of the year, but yeah. I dont really find stuff on it that tops Hold The Line, but Anything Goes is fire, Pon de Floor is porn, When You hear the bassline, Jump Up, Bruk Out,… 90% dopeness.  Only Keep It Goin Louder sucks big time due to being a commercial chart fighter with autotune under the wings. I defffnitly like hands in the air techno crap, but they fucked it up. Businesswise it makes good sense of course.

if you listen to house or electro or electro house or something, you might know about diplo.
as i read in one interview, he’s pretty much about mixing house and hiphop. his sound speaks for his self though.

Diplo: Well I mean I kind of grew up on hip hop and Baltimore club was like the hip hop version of house music. So even the guys I work with like Switch are even more influenced by hip hop than me, because they were rappers before they were house producers. I’ve been producing a lot of hip hop though. I think for every house beat I’ve made, I’ve made probably four or five hip hop beats.

It’s all about combining the best of these little micro-genres of music though. I’m always up to do some hip hop beats. The PRGz, that’s a big hip hop project for me. Blaqstarr does a little hip hop. Rye Rye is on Interscope now. Locally, not so much in Philly, because there aren’t that many rappers left there. Wale, I did some beats for him. The track with Kid Sister actually has David Banner on it.

listening to juicy fruit from proton at the moment, they have some dope old school rap tracks next to electro experiments, swagger jackin the cool kids in some way. next to outkast and hipster godfather pharrell, who they took some rap styles from. difference to the kool kids is, proton are bringing nineties back. love it. ice cream beat by wu tang. just wetted my boogy. told ya nineties is coming back! which sample is inside my love by the way??? is she singin “do you wanna cum inside me” or am i just a day late with the current cum shot? after all, they have a bunch of funny remixes talkin bout fuckin and even akinyele on it^^ didnt hear that for years. it was all a dream – i used to read raveline magazine…
