I didnt really pay attention to Guccis stuff in 2009. To me,  Dirty South got a lil uninteresting cause it slowed down in making progress, other stuff was more interesting it I defffnitly didnt feel like snapping fingers and brushing dust of my shoulder in 09. Buttt: I defffnitly payed attention to Gucci some years ago. After gettin into Jeezy around the time of his major debut of course I checked out his arch enemy of that time too. Gucci had momentum with So Icy, just like collaborating Jeezy. Problem was, after the track they got into beef and Gucci shot a guy trying to rob him, allegedly send by Jeezy. So Jeezy rocked the charts and Gucci had to fight charges. He did, but chart topping retalition had to wait till 09. Now they sqashed beef btw. Problem at the end of 09 for Gucci: hes in jail again. Violated probation. So thats were the title of Diplos mixtape comes from. 

Mixtape is nice, nothing more, nothing lesser. Like the Emnyd track and dude even added the instrumental on his blog. Lots of tight producers on the tape, so check their work.

What I put on my playlist: first, Faithless are back. Its three years since there last album and much longer since I cared. Dont know what they did during the last years, but the new stuff aint bad. They put the new single „Sun To Me“ on the net, a housy party tune. Now Gui Borrato and Jerome ISA reworked the tune. Dark atmosphere house tunes, also club friendly. A third remix is coming from trance producer Alex Morph.

Electro House with some left-ober Kelis lyrics from the original track. The next Kelis album is supposed to be produced by Will.I.Am and David Guetta by the way. Another one on that commercial urban bass trip. What else are you supposed to do if your milkshakes doesnt bring the boys to the yard anymore.

I know artists dont like genres nowadays because everybody is so much of an individual he surely cant be compared to anyone else doing music. And I know Dizzee doesnt like being asked about grime. But another thing I do know is it still interests me. So we talked about grime, collaborating with Armand Van Helden (he asked Dizzee so he did it..), UKs electronic music scene and whatnot.

Heard Dizzee doesnt like interviews neither what makes it kinda hard talkin to him in front of a camera, but it still worked out fine. I did like 20 interviews with a bad hang over but it was a dope weekend. So if you ready for some heavy german accent clashing cockney, here we go.

As hipster as it gets. An alternative rock group, electronic producers and a rapper. All three musical elements in one song. Wait for the video with carrot cuts, funky glasses, ironic poses, homoeroticism and colourful colours. Vice magazine should be proud.The End of Day.

What is the rapping hipsters passion for space about anyways? Lil Wayne is a marsian, Kanye West ripped Daft Punks space stage to orchestrate hisself as the “greatest star of the universe” and Kid Cudi is the man on the moon. Escaping the world economic crisis on a pursuit of happiness?

Lets speak about the song. Somebody give  the Kid a hug! I guess somebody did after Excuse my Mood. Sky wont fall once he got it. Sky, space and emotions all over. I just heard somebody say hipsters aint nothing but painted Emos. Proven right.

Sorry for sounding like a hater, the music is cool and Cudi is a cool dude. Its just that I realise I wrote three posts in a row about music I appreciate but will hardly listen to. Somebody get me to lala land, a place without having to work like a mule for small change, no aggressions that your speakers have to reflect, all about falling in love, being a cute kid and enyojing  peacefull moonlight. I liked Bonkers better. Its a thin line between pop and pop. Would this be the time for another “why didnt urban dance get brought to the charts by new cats before the mainstream exploits it” rant? Probably. Holidays suck, schakker hart (thats “work hard” for you 1st world citizens).

In related news, the attempted murder of the vocal effect called “Auto Tune” failed miserably. Sean “Jay-Z” Carter, you loose. Although I would say Jay-Zs “back to the basics, fuck rappers who put melodys in their raps and everything the South brought to the game” is a classic case of “aus der Not eine Tugend machen” (somebody translate that), it was a nice try. So sad it failed.

British singer/ band (this is like a Mike Skinner/ The Streets type of confusing thing) Mr Hudson has his album Straight No Chaser co-produced by Kanye West. Auto Tune in the first single wasnt surprising since Mr “biggest star in the universe” West needs his walking frame for his ambitions as a Hipster-ish pop singer. Mr. Hudson wouldnt and being Kanye’s protege aint doing bad neither. The album appears on Kanyes G.O.O.D. Music and 1st single Supernova topped the charts right ahead.

DOA, huh? Jiggas personal Bay of Pigs aside, talk of the town Calvin Harris made Mr.Hudsons well produced electronic alternative RnB 80ies pop bounceable. The synths make you throw up your hands like its Sensation White again. Or some big ass commercial house event.

Straight No Chaser is out in october.

Ah yeah: the joke about all of this is that Mr.Hudsons song tops Dizzee’s. Mainly due to the fact that Calvin’s remix for Hudson is better than the beat he gave Dizzee’s single. Still strange. Once you start doing pop your battle skills won’t get you far, Mcee.

In Raveline magazine he explained he wanted to create something new, like every producer wants to. I wouldnt really call the idea groundbreaking, this very blog documentates projects like that since the first post. Nice thing that a commercially succesful guy like Guetta strenghtens the trend but I cant really say I’m happy about it.

I‘d like to see new artists with witty new sounds climb the charts, not mainstream acts using the trend for their current project before they dumb it for something new. But Guetta is a business guy. He managed clubs (like the stripclub owned by his wife) before he started taking his music career seriously. His money making mind is apparent in all his work. What actually makes it top of the line and aint a bad thing. In general.

I’ve been to United Respect in cologne rescently, where he was headlining. People partied hard to his set, which seemingly was the same he always does this summer since it came from the same CD… When live DJing DJs like DJ Hell followed, music got better but the floor emptied. If you come to see a star you come to see a star. But I dont really get what’s the point about looking at a star clapping his hands behind a DJ desk.

I’m telling you this sidestory because it’ll give you an impression of what to expect from One Love: A cruise missile aiming for top positions on the charts. You’ll recognise its Guetta if you ever heard one of his songs before. What will be the case if you turned on a radio during the last three years. Real good commercial house music. Nothing that brings music to a higher level, nothing edgy, no surprises. Like christmas with an order form.

I dont think One Love will make it to my playlist and I dont believe it will help the evolution of new genres made up of urban and electronic music. But it will make it easier to fill clubs, sell compilations, convince labels or reach a mainstream audience with projects like that.
